Representatives of the Czech Power Industry Alliance and KHNP signed a memorandum on the establishment of a working group

During the state visit of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to the Czech Republic, senior representatives of the Czech Power Industry Alliance and KHNP signed a memorandum on the establishment of a working group tasked with negotiating the localization conditions for the Czech industry in the construction of new nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic. The Korean company has long declared that it will involve Czech companies in the project for more than 60 percent of the total contract volume.

The memorandum was signed on September 20, 2024, at the headquarters of Doosan Škoda Power in Pilsen, where KHNP held a ceremonial event to mark the signing of a total of 13 cooperation agreements between the Czech Republic and Korea across all areas of nuclear energy.

The ceremony was attended by key government representatives, including South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, as well as representatives from major organizations in the field of nuclear energy from both countries.

KHNP President and CEO Jooho Whang stated during the ceremony: “The agreements are an important milestone for the Dukovany nuclear power plant expansion project. Not only will we be able to exceed the level of localization expected by the Czech Republic, but our cooperation will also promote collaboration between both countries in the academic and research sectors and further strengthen the partnership between our countries in the field of nuclear energy.”

Josef Perlík, Executive Director of the Czech Power Industry Alliance, added: “I am pleased that we confirmed in the memorandum with KHNP our common goal of significant involvement of Czech industry in the completion of the Dukovany nuclear power plant. We also value the words of President and CEO of KHNP Jooho Whang regarding the assurance of Czech companies’ localization in the volume required by the Czech government. Part of the memorandum is the establishment of a working group by the end of September 2024, composed of representatives from both sides, with the task of beginning intensive negotiations and preparing a specific localization plan.”
