What Czech companies can offer for the completion of new nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic, what risks they currently see in a situation where they still have no guarantees whether or to what extent they will be able to participate in the tender and what possible threats the change in the perception of nuclear energy in Europe means – this is not only what Josef Perlík, Director of the Czech Power Industry Alliance, told Economic newspaper.
A little taste:
A few years ago, the intention to build a new nuclear unit at Dukovany was unique in Europe. Now everything is different. As the director of the CPIA, Josef Perlík, says, domestic technology suppliers are mainly worried about Poland’s nuclear plans.
Czech nuclear technology suppliers are looking at the ongoing tender of ČEZ for the construction of a new nuclear unit in Dukovany with both hope and concern. After more than two decades, they are gaining job security “at home”.
At the same time, they are afraid of the ambitious plans of Poland, which wants to build three large nuclear units. This would reduce the importance of Czech companies. Particularly as the US Westinghouse, Korea’s KHNP and France’s EdF are seeking to win in both countries.
“The fear is that they will then subordinate supply models to be as comfortable as possible for countries where their business will be bigger. Thus, they will invite non-Czech companies into their subcontracting models,” Josef Perlík, chairman of the board of Sigma Group and executive director of the Czech Power Industry Alliance, which brings together the main domestic nuclear technology suppliers, told EN.
