KEPCO Engineering & Construction Company Inc. (KEPCO E&C), a leading nuclear engineering company based in Korea, held a Nuclear Engineering Partnership Day in Prague on Tuesday, June 11. As the announcement of the preferred bidder for the new nuclear unit construction project in the Czech Republic is imminent, the event was attended by key figures including the Executive Vice President of KEPCO E&C and the Korean Ambassador to the Czech Republic. The participants wanted to personally support the Korean bid, which was submitted by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. (KHNP) in April this year.
During the event, KEPCO E&C presented the APR1000 reactor in more detail, including details of its design. This model was developed and offered to the Czech Republic by KHNP and KEPCO E&C. Meetings with Czech engineering companies were also held during the day to strengthen mutual partnerships. The event was attended by representatives of about twenty Czech companies from the nuclear industry, who showed considerable interest in cooperation with their Korean counterparts.
At the event, KEPCO E&C presented a model of cooperation with Czech companies, which mainly includes partnerships for the construction of new nuclear units. The company representatives emphasized that they expect the Czech industry to participate up to 65% in the volume of deliveries for the completion of new nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic.
They also expect that the collaboration between KEPCO E&C and Czech suppliers will benefit from technical synergies given the Czech Republic’s long history as an industrial country and operator of nuclear power plants, for which it has maintained a robust engineering supply chain for decades.
